Consumers are getting smarter.
They are reading labels and learning more about food additives.
They are researching food additives online and become angry about the tricks used by food manufacturers to hide artificial, junky, toxic ingredients in their foods.
One thing millions of people have learned in the recent years is that High Fructose Corn Syrup also known as HFCS is bad bad bad bad for you.
And what’s even worse is that HFCS is actually
! Yes, that’s why manufacturers love for you to eat, because once you eat it, you become hooked on it, and can’t stop!
So once again, big food companies are trying to trick the consumer by renaming HFCS with names that sound more “natural” to consumers, like “corn syrup” or “fructose”.
A lot of people know “fructose” as the sugar in fruit, so they automatically think it’s healthy.
Big food companies are hiding ingredients they know we really don’t want to consume in their products. This time it’s the presence of a new version of high fructose corn syrup. But this is not the innocuous fructose that has sweetened the fruits, humans have eaten since time began. This is a questionable ingredient with many names that could be causing all sorts of health problems. hlfteam.com
How Manufacturers are Tricking You Further
There is another loophole being used to trick you into believing something is HFCS-free. There is a food additive called HFCS-90 which is now being used in natural and light foods. When manufacturers use HFCS-90 they do not have to state “high fructose corn syrup” on the label anymore. They merely have to state fructose or fructose syrup. So now the manufacturers have another sneaky sneaky way to label their products and hence trick you into believing that what you are eating contains a natural fruit sugar.
“Simply eliminating the high fructose corn syrup designation for the laboratory sweetener that’s nine-tenths fructose and calling it what it really is: fructose. And that’s how a processed-food product like Vanilla Chex that contains “fructose”, a substance that, according to the corn refiners, used to be called HFCS-90, can now declare itself to be high fructose corn syrup-free.” hlfteam.com
It’s just wrong that they are able to get away with this stuff, but they are. So that makes all of us have to be smarter food shoppers, label readers, and ingredient investigators ALL THE TIME. We also have to share this information with everyone we know, and especially our kids so they become label readers too!
Here Are 10 Sneaky Names Used To Hide High Fructose Corn Syrup in Your Food
- Corn syrup
- Maize (another name for corn) syrup
- Glucose syrup
- Glucose/fructose syrup
- Tapioca syrup
- Dahlia syrup
- Fruit fructose
- Crystalline fructose
- In Europe “isoglucose”
So here’s the thing you need to be aware of now… if what you are eating is processed, and it has some sweetness to it, and if the label doesn’t say “sugar” or “cane sugar” you can pretty much be certain that it contains some form of HFCS.
Also, if it says “all natural sweetener,” unless it specifically says “Stevia”… which is considered an all natural sweetener… if it’s sweet… it probably has an artificial sweetener, crappy sweetener, that is bad for your health.
So read, read, read every label, and become a super sleuth when it comes to your health!
