How do you detox for weight loss so that it’s safe and effective, and you don’t end up simply rebounding and just gaining the weight back?
Detoxing For Weight Loss
Detox… de-schmox? You hear a lot of babble these days about detoxing your body and how to detox for weight loss. The information can be super confusing because it’s very conflicting!
- Do I do the Master Cleanse?
- What about doing just a Juice Fast?
- Should I drink water only for 40 days and 40 nights?
- Maybe I should eat only one thing for a week, say bananas?
It’s all so confusing! I have a friend who was going on a supposed “detox” at her gym, and I was asking her about what she could have, and she said…”Oh, chicken, fish, pork, veggies, certain grains, and fruits…” etc. I was like, “That’s not a detox!!! That’s just a diet!!!”
It made me really mad because they were selling the program as a detox for cleansing. Well the truth is there is no one and only way to detox the body.
Why Detox In The First Place?
Every day our body is hit in every direction with toxins, both from the things we put into our body like smoke, alcohol, drugs and processed foods, as well as environmental toxins like pesticides, heavy metals and chemicals.
Cleansing our system helps to eliminate these toxins, boosts energy and helps in losing weight.
Our bodies are naturally equipped to flush out toxins that we encounter, or we would have to all live in a plastic bubble. But the fact of the matter is that we are living in an industrial society, and nowadays our bodies get pummelled with more toxins than ever before.
There are approximately 80,000 chemicals used in the United States today. Some of the chemicals that we are exposed to get excreted by the body in a relatively short amount of time. But there are others, like chlorinated pesticides, that can accumulate in the blood, fatty tissue, muscle, bone and brain, where they can remain for decades. Now that’s just horrible!!!
Now I’m not trying to get you to freak out, because it’s not possible to completely eliminate all of the toxins in your body, but you can do a periodic cleansing to help to enhance your body’s own ability to lighten up your toxic load.
