“High Intensity Interval Training: Why I Use It In The Boot Camp Workouts…”

best post workout meal

Some of you want to know why I use High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT workouts during boot camp workout and why we are doing them.

To explain it simply….When you exercise at intense levels followed by periods of rest, your body burns a lot more fat, and as an added bonus exercising in intervals affects your metabolism for up to 24 hours AFTER exercise.

One thing I hear over and over again from the women I train using interval training is this:  “I was sooooooo tired before coming to class, I just didn’t want to come, but when I’m done, I always feel so energized and amazing!”  That is the benefit of the after-burn effect.  You feel revved up and ready to go!

HIIT workouts also help to preserve lean muscle.  And you want to preserve as much lean muscle as you possibly can because the beauty of having nice lean muscle is that your body will naturally burn more calories at rest.  Because, remember, muscle burns more calories at rest than fat does.

With HIIT, you can actually burn up to 9 times more fat by exercising less…this is know as the after-burn effect!

One thing I ALWAYS hated about going to the gym was that it took 15 to 20 minutes to get there, 1-1/2 hours there to work out (between the workout and waiting for equipment) and then and 15 to 20 minutes to get home.  Then after spending sometimes over two hours a day 5 to 6 days a week, I still didn’t feel like I was getting ANY results.  It was always so frustrating.

Now I only do High Intensity Interval Training, and the results are phenomenal.  You get a great workout all the time, and you feel amazing afterwards, and you can do this all in much less without spending hours and hours in the gym!

Let’s do more HIIT workouts!
