How Often To Eat to Diet Tips

time to eatKnowing how often to eat is one of the keys to sustained weight loss.  It’s really important to know that when you do not eat for a long time, your metabolism will slow down. This is why dieting by eating too little always backfires.

Everyone knows that if  you go for long periods of time without eating enough food, you are going to lose some weight, aka, crash dieting. But when you do this, your metabolism slows down and when you do end up eating, that food turns to fat with lightning speed!

The reason it turns to fat is because your body is HUNGRY! Your body is smart.  It WANTS to survive, and so when you finally give it some food, your smart little body says…”Okay, she’s finally feeding me something!!!  I’m holding onto this like a leach and storing some fat, so when she makes me starve again, I have something to survive on!” 

So, let me now answer the burning question, “How Often To eat?”  By eating a small meal every 2 – 3 hours, you will stoke your metabolism just like you stoke a fire. To make a nice big bonfire, you need to keep feeding the flame. Your metabolism is the same way.  You need to keep feeding your metabolism to keep it running hot!

If you are not eating something small every 2 – 3 hours, you will be slowing your metabolism down and creating a fat-storing body. This is so important I will repeat it…

Also, when you go for more than 2 – 3 hours without food, your blood sugar drops. This causes intense hunger and cravings for sugary foods.  That’s why a lot of women get those 3:00 monster cravings!  They think, well if I skip breakfast, and just have coffee, and then I skip lunch and have a diet Coke, then I won’t have so many calories… WRONG, WRONG WRONG!

You need to be sure to eat in the morning, an hour after you get up, and then every 2 to 3 hours after that.  You don’t have to be a freak and set a  timer (unless you want to), just remember to have a snack or a meal every two to three hours… that 5 to 6 times a day… it should look something like this:

  • 7:00ish  breakfast
  • 10:00ish snack
  • 1:00ish lunch
  • 4:00ish snack
  • 7:00ish dinner

Now please don’t flip out over this, and think, OMG, she’s telling me to eat five times a day, and right now I’m eating once a day!  I’m telling you this because it keeps the FAT BURNING GOING all day long.  Your body is happy, the furnace is stoked, and are fueled for weight loss that lasts.
