how to shrink your belly without exerciseI know a lot of women who ask me this burning question… ”So, how do you get a flat belly or six pack abs?” The belly is one of the biggest issues that women struggle with. A lot of women will grab their tummy and say to me, “how do I get rid of this?!”

Well, the truth about abs is simple. You have abdominal muscles, they are there, you just can’t see them if they are covered with a layer of fat. You have the rectus abdominis, those are known as the six-pack, then you have the lower abs which are called the transverse abdominis, and then the muscles that run along the sides, the internal and external obliques.

But how do you get a flat belly or how do you get six pack abs? Well, the truth about getting a flat tummy is that you can do a million crunches, and you will strengthen your stomach muscles, but you will not burn fat. There are also a lot of products and gimmicks that lead you to believe you can get a flat belly or six pack abs in six minutes a day or with one piece of equipment. But, that’s just not the truth.

If your belly is hidden under a layer of fat, then you will not see the sexy cuts you are looking for. You have to do high-intensity cardio and eat clean to lose the layer of fat and reveal the muscle. Also, it’s better to do moves that strengthen, sculpt and burn calories at the same time, like adding planks and moves that use twists like wood chops into the mix. This is what really helps you get that sexy tummy you are looking for.

 

The Truth About Abs: Don’t Fall for Gimmicks!

There are also a lot of products and gimmicks that lead you to believe you can get a flat belly or six pack abs in six minutes a day or with one piece of equipment. But, that’s just not true AT ALL. I have seen a lot of infomercials telling you that if you buy this piece of equipment and you use it for 6, 8 or 10 minutes a day, you are going to get a six-pack. Do not fall for this. Again, this just isn’t true. If it was, then everyone would be walking around in a bikini’s with their flat, six-pack tummy showing it off to the world.

To get a flat tummy, you have to do cardio to blast fat, and strength training to tighten, tone and reveal the muscles, and you have to eat clean clean clean. That is really the truth about getting a flat stomach. There are no short-cuts. It takes work. It takes a lot of work.

Every other magazine headline reads something like, “melt belly fat,” “get flat abs instantly,” “six-pack abs in 10 minutes…” This makes me crazy because it’s just not true. You need to remember that you have to lose the layer of fat to get a flat tummy and see your abs. Crunches alone are just not going to cut it.

 

The Truth About Abs: Don’t Forget Your Core!

I know you want that sexy six pack, but you have to keep in mind that the it’s just as important to have a strong back as it is to have a strong tummy. The front and back of your midsection make up the “core” of your body. When you have a strong core you also prevent a protruding belly.  And most importantly, a strong core also helps with all your activities of daily living, as well as your other exercises. So when you are working on your tummy, don’t neglect your back. A good addition to crunches and is to do the “plank” as well. Nothing strengthens your core and back faster than doing the plank.

Every new woman that I train in my boot camp when they first start doing planks, tells me “this hurts my back….”  I tell them to keep doing it!  They whine, cry, grunt, and groan… And then in about 2 to 4 weeks, they go from not being able to hold a plank for 10 seconds, to being able to hold it for 2 minutes, and then they say… “Woohoo!  My back doesn’t hurt anymore!”  That’s what a strong core does for you.

So that is really another important note when you are seeking the truth about abs. Train your entire core as well to develop your abs to their full potential.
