Turmeric Recipes For Your Topsy-Turvy Tummy
All my life, my biggest weakness has been my tummy! It’s always the first thing to go on me when things start to break down. For some people, they get a lot of colds or they get the flu, or they have allergies, etc. For me, when something is going to go wrong in my body, the first place I am going to feel it is in my tummy!
When I was younger, and I would have an upset stomach I would just eat a bunch of Tums, and they helped, but as I became more informed, and read more, I knew that poppin’ Tums, or any other antacid, like candy is just plain dumb! The Tums were not going to “heal” me… they were just temporarily taking away the queasy stomach. What I needed to find was something that would help “heal” the stomach, not just put a patch on things. When I was in my 30s, I was told by a doctor that I had “GERD” (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Right away I was told to take Zantac. Did it work, yes it did but I don’t want to be taking drugs for the rest of my life if I don’t have to! Drugs like Zantac and Pepcid are called H2 blockers, and what they are supposed to do is reduce the production of stomach acid. I wanted to find a way to “heal” myself, not just keep drugging it away and wait for it to come back.
In the past few years, since I started juicing, I did a lot of research into the benefits of turmeric and it’s super anti-inflammatory properties. I started to take turmeric powder on a regular basis to help me calm my inflammation and the chronic Achilles tendonitis that was plaguing me from all the years of running that I did through my 30s and 40s. What I discovered through my own trial and error was that the turmeric would make me just feel better “overall.” The pain would diminish, and the inflammation would definitely be down.
Then I did a lot more research and I started to read even more about the anti-inflammatory benefits. I read that the benefits of turmeric were being compared to ibuprofen?! I thought that was amazing in and of itself. I know that all of the medicine is based somewhat on herbs and nature, but this to me was remarkable.
Turmeric Recipes – Juicing Turmeric Root
After doing lots of reading and research on the benefits of turmeric, I decided to start juicing turmeric root. Turmeric root looks a lot like ginger root, except it’s orange. It’s kind of hard to find, but you will find it in places like Whole Foods or many Middle Eastern or Indian markets since it’s such a staple in their recipe. Turmeric is what gives curry its distinctive orange color. My favorite way to juice turmeric is along with Carrots and Apples, and that is how I make my famous CAT juice (Carrots, Apples, Turmeric)! I tried this turmeric recipe several times when I had a bit of a bad stomach, and I am not kidding you, my stomach problems would vanish. I became a huge fan of finding ways to incorporate Turmeric into any recipes I could.
So when I came across this really great “hot toddy” Tumeric Recipe I thought it was perfect for this time of year! It incorporates black pepper which is said to increase the benefits of turmeric by 1000% (yes, that’s one thousand percent!) It also has cinnamon which is great for helping to control your blood sugar. You see what makes turmeric so beneficial is its main property… CURCUMIN.
Curcumin diminishes irritation in the body. In fact, the healing properties of curcumin (turmeric) are so effective that it is utilized in a variety of medicines for joint pain! So give Turmeric a try to heal your tummy troubles. You will find a lot of relief fast!
To your best health!
